so, as I promised, the colored version... TADA! :) and the little story behind the drawing:

Thomas and Martha Jefferson were married on New Year’s Day, 1772, at the bride’s plantation home before setting out in a two-horse carriage for Monticello. They made the 100-mile trip in one of the worst snowstorms to hit Virginia. Eight miles from their destination, their carriage bogged down in 2–3 feet of snow; they had to proceed on horseback and rode the remaining distance over a rough mountian track. Arriving at Monticello late at night after the servants had banked the fires and retired, the couple settled in the freezing one-room, twenty-foot-square brick building, the “Honeymoon Cottage”. Thomas lit a fire in the fireplace to get some warmth and they toasted their new home with a leftover half-bottle of french wine hidden behind a shelf of books, and “song and merriment and laughter”.

note: i just LOVE this couple sfm. their whole love story could come from a tragic fictional romantic novel... i drew something happy but i still have depressive ideas for them

Just an FYI, it has become a 'fictional romantic novel', as tragic as only the truth of their marriage can be, I guess. It's called, 'My Thomas: A Novel of Martha Jefferson's Life'. Enjoy! (thank me ).
