“we had a nightmare.”
“both of you? at the same time?”
“can we… sleep in your bed, with you? tonight? please?”
“no.”

*****DON'T REPOST ON TUMBLR*****

i wanted to draw something cute and happy and fluffy with this family -for once- and so, i drew the daughters in the bed of their parents! This is very historically inaccurate... Were children allowed to act like that during the 18th century? I DON'T THINK SO but... oh well, the things we do for the Art :D

let’s pretend Polly is around 3, Patsy around 8 and Martha is maybe pregnant - but we can’t see it because of the sheets, i’m so smart !

To answerd your question (I am an Historian) depending of the class and culture, is most likely that the girls and boy would sleep in the same room and/or the same bed as their parents. The logic was pure economics: building a room for the kids alones cost alot of money and it was easier to make just a big bedroom for the whole family, if they needed privacy it would have most likely used some barracs stile beds (and is a huge maybe. Even my mother remembers that they used to share a bed with their parents until they got enough money to buy other matress.
